About the Role
Sunrise Care Homes is recruiting a Specialist Dementia Carer to take a lead practice role within our dedicated dementia unit. Alongside delivering hands-on care, you will act as a dementia champion for the team — supporting colleagues, leading activities, and driving the quality and consistency of person-centred practice across the unit.
This is a senior position suitable for someone who has built real depth of knowledge in dementia care and is ready to use it to improve practice for others.
What You Will Be Doing
- Delivering skilled personal care to residents with complex dementia presentations
- Leading life story work and meaningful activities tailored to individual histories and interests
- Acting as dementia champion: supporting and coaching junior staff in dementia-aware practice
- Conducting and contributing to care plan reviews with a dementia-specific lens
- Working with the activity coordinator to develop sensory and reminiscence programmes
- Liaising with families to build life history profiles and maintain their involvement
- Contributing to staff training and induction within the dementia unit
What We Are Looking For
- Minimum three years’ experience in dementia care, ideally with a specialist remit
- NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or dementia-specific qualification)
- Detailed knowledge of dementia presentations, behaviours, and person-centred approaches
- A natural communicator and role model for colleagues
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
